Fukui Junior Ambassadors had a great time here in Fullerton in
2008. Now it's Fullerton's Junior Ambassadors' turn to
travel! Twelve students will be visiting Japan from July
29 through August 9 this summer, the twentieth
anniversary of our Sister City partnership. Twenty years
ago, then-mayor Molly McClanahan traveled to Fukui and signed
the proclamation at an elaborate ceremony. A delegation
from Fukui flew to California and sealed the deal; the Fukui
Friendship Tree was planted on the east side of Fullerton City
Hall.
History and tradition are very
important to the people of our Japanese Sister City, as they are
to us. So it's certain that Fukui folks
have big plans for their visitors! The Junior Ambassadors
to Fukui will be uniquely honored this year, as will any
Fullerton Sister City member who visits Japan. Watch this
space for information on an adult trip to Fukui in Fall of 2009!
